REFRIGERATION & COMMERCIAL BARGAINING UPDATES

October 31, 2014

BARGAINING UPDATES

NOVEMBER 17, 2014

Dear members of UA Local 179,

Collective Bargaining for the UA Local 179 Provincial Refrigeration Agreement for the Province of Saskatchewan and for the UA Local 179 Provincial Commercial Agreement has commenced. We have now completed two full days of bargaining for each agreement on October 28th & November 12th for Refrigeration and October 29th & November 14th for Commercial.

After two full days of bargaining  for both the Commercial and Refrigeration agreements things are going well and have been quite positive. We have worked through the majority of the points for consideration and continue to bargain over monetary issues and fewer than half a dozen other outstanding items. Our goal and our expectation is that after one more day of bargaining for both the Refrigeration & Commercial agreements we will have an offer to take to the membership for consideration. We are currently organizing the date for the next round of negotiations which will take place between November 28th and December 5th.

Our Honeywell Refrigeration agreement is about to expire on November 30, 2014 and we have arranged two dates for bargaining with Honeywell on November 25th and November 26th in Regina.

Thank you again to all the members who have contributed ideas for our bargaining proposals and for the members of the negotiating committees for their hard work and dedication. I will continue to update the membership as things progress.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Dear members of UA Local 179,

Collective Bargaining for the UA Local 179 Provincial Refrigeration Agreement for the Province of Saskatchewan and for the UA Local 179 Provincial Commercial Agreement has commenced. We completed one full day of bargaining for each agreement on October 28th (Refrigeration) and October 29th (Commercial).

After one full day of bargaining for each agreement, we had an opportunity to exchange bargaining proposals and work through the proposals. The bargaining was productive and we were able to reach agreement on a number of issues. We will continue bargaining the Refrigeration Agreement on November 12th and the Commercial Agreement on November 14th.

One of the items that we are working hard to accomplish in these negotiations is to change the expiry dates of our agreements to align with our industrial agreement as a result of a recent court ruling from the Saskatchewan Court of the Queen's Bench. Essentially, the Court ruled that Trade Unions are not able to achieve a legal strike position unless all of our agreements have expired.

I would like to thank the negotiations committee for their excellent work through our first round of negotiations. I will continue to do my best to keep the membership informed and provide updates as things progress.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

In Solidarity,

Troy Knipple
