Canadian Labour Market Outlook 2012-2020 Report
August 30, 2012
As work opportunities increase across the country the manpower demands facing us will be
unprecedented. The workload from coast to coast is steadily increasing with some areas, particularly
Alberta and Saskatchewan already facing shortages. This will be the case in other areas of the Country
on a going forward basis. The organization that can supply the manpower will control the work.
Did you know that an estimated 219,000 construction workers are expected to retire over the next
decade, an additional 100,000 construction workers will be needed to man future expansion projects.
That is a staggering 319,000 construction workers needed over the next 10 years. From a strictly UA
perspective that means we need to bring in 20,000 new members across Canada over the next 10 years just to maintain status quo with no growth in Market Share.
