Passing of Edward Schoenroth UA Member / JTAC Committee Member / C&E Mechanical Owner

EDWARD WALTER SCHOENROTH
Edward Schoenroth of Moose Jaw passed away peacefully with family by his side on May 18, 2012 at age of 83. Born in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan, Ed left home at an early age. As a sixteen year old ex-serviceman of World War II, he applied for a plumbing course through the Canadian Vocational Training School in Moose Jaw. In 1946, Ed landed a position with a local plumber and met nurse Frances Lowe while a patient at the Moose Jaw General Hospital. They married in 1947 and built their current home in 1949. His plumbing career grew over the years and he became a charter member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union of Saskatchewan (UA), later he became president of the UA local from 1954 to 1957. Ed and his partner Carl Young started C&E Plumbing and Heating in 1958. His most memorable achievement was serving as President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada 1980 -81. Ed retired in 1989 and his sons Art and Gary took over the business as C&E Mechanical Inc. In 2008, the UA initiated the annual “Ed Schoenroth Scholarship” at the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship Trade Certification Commission’s Outstanding New Journeyperson Awards in honour of his contributions to the industry. Edward is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Herman, Walter, Arthur, Johnny; sisters , Marie (Oren) Truitt, Tina (Alf) Lake; brothers in law, George (Gwen) Lowe and Jim McDonough. Edward will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 64 years Fran; sons Arthur (Rita) and Gary (Karen); grandchildren Kim(Brian), Darren (Kim), Todd (Nadine), Jessica(Jahson), Matt(Laura), Tyler(Bre), Andrew(Krista); five great grandchildren; sister in law Winnifred McDonough; special niece Eileen Truitt; special nephew Lawrence (Shirley) McDonough as well as many other family members. A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held on Wednesday May 23, 2012 at the Alliance Church, 14 Neslia Place, Moose Jaw at 11:00 am. Della Ferguson will officiate. Private family interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. In honor of Edward C & E Mechanical will be closed on Wednesday May 23, 2012. For those so wishing memorial donations can be made to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation. In living memory of Ed a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
