Anthony Lix
March 25, 1950 - February 20, 2014

 

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of UA Local 179 member Anthony Lix. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. Tony passed away at the Garcia Medical Center in the Philippines on Friday, February 21st, 2014 at the age of 63.

Tony was born on March 25, 1950 in Regina, Sk. As a young boy Tony enjoyed hanging out with his friends. Whether it was a game of hockey at the East Hill Rink, tossing a ball around in the backyard, or riding his bike around town, all he wanted was adventure and fun! Another favorite pastime of Tony’s was teasing his four siblings endlessly and getting into as much mischief as possible. He always kept his parents on their toes, wondering what he would be up to next! His love of the Navel Cadets at a young age led him to enlist in the Royal Canadian Navy when he was 17 years old. Tony was first stationed in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia and after that was very fortunate to travel all over the world during his 7 year term in the Navy. His last post ended in Esquimalt, B.C., where he met his future wife, Mary Katchen.

 

They were married in Victoria, B.C. in 1973 and then moved back home to Prince Albert so Tony could be part of the family business, L&A Plumbing and Heating. He worked there for 15 years and this is where he began his trade as a plumber/pipefitter. After he left L&A, Tony worked in various places throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta as a pipefitter and retired in 2011. While living in Prince Albert, Tony and Mary were blessed with 3 children, Jaime, Terri, and David. Life with 3 children never gave them a dull moment. Tony kept busy coaching ball, building a skating rink in the backyard each winter (where he took pride in helping the kids develop their skating skills) and other various ‘dad’ duties, like backyard barbeques and crash courses in bike riding! A man of many talents, Tony worked alongside his dad and put in many hours building 2 of the homes the family lived in. He also helped each of his kids with various renovation projects in their own houses.

Tony’s passions included sports teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to watch movies and could easily kick anyone’s butt at a game of Movie Trivial Pursuit. Tony absolutely loved Sci-Fi shows and could sit all day long watching a Star Trek marathon, while snacking on his favorite treat of butter tarts! He owned the biggest collection of Louis L’amour western books and would read them over and over. Once retired, Tony began travelling regularly to the Philippines to golf and spend time with the many friends he made while visiting. Tony was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and friend who will be missed immensely by those he left behind. He is survived by Mary Katchen; his children, Jaime Reimer (Sean), Terri Schrader (Bob), David Lix (Juanita Paupst); his grandchildren, Cole Reimer, McKenna, Cassidy, Pryce Schrader, Kaydence, Payton, Macen Lix; his mother Hazel Lix; his siblings, Carol LaBuick (John), Bev Shewchuk (Jerry), Susan Waters (Danny), Doug Lix (Michele); numerous nephews and nieces, and Marissa Callueng of the Philippines. He was predeceased by his father, Roy Lix; his infant brother, David Scott; his nephew, John LaBuick; his grandparents, John and Kay Lix and James and Alice Revill.

The celebration of Tony’s life will be held at a later date for close friends and family.
