Passin of UA Member Steve Broda

October 6, 2016
Broda, Steve Michael, September 9, 1958 – September 15, 2016 of Kamsack, Saskatchewan entered eternal rest at the age of 58, due to heart failure. Steve was born in Poland to parents Michael and Anna Broda (Shozda). In May 1960, he immigrated with his family to Kamsack, where he eventually started his career in plumbing. Steve received both his Interprovincial Red Seal certification in plumbing and steam fitting.  In 1980, he married Wendy Kazakoff. Steve believed there was no greater joy than his three sons, who he loved to take hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Steve also enjoyed cooking, using the fresh ingredients he grew in his garden. The family first lived in Saskatoon, then in Flin Flon, Manitoba where Steve went to work at HBM&S. During this time, he owned and operated his own plumbing company.  When Steve later moved back to Saskatchewan he rejoined UA Local 179 and was an avid supporter of unions. He used to say "some are brothers, some are hoods, it's a brotherhood".  A good hearted, generous man, Steve was known for his big personality, along with his often unsolicited honesty and advice.  He is survived by his father, Michael, sons; Matthew (Katrina), Justin (Lora) and Jared, sisters Sylvia (Jim), Marie (Ken), brother Stan (Nicole) along with many nieces and nephews. Steve is predeceased by his mother Anna, sister Mary, and brother John.
